Safe Patient Care (Nurse to Patient and Midwife to Patient Ratios) Act 2015 sets the minimum staff to patient ratios so that everyone can get safe, quality care no matter where they receive care across the State of Victoria.
Corryong Health provides care in a ‘Mixed Ward’ consisting of Acute and Residential Care as a Multipurpose Service model of care.
That is, we provide care for patients with sub-acute conditions and residential aged care for people requiring respite and permanent accommodation.
To ensure compliance with the Safe Patient Care (Nurse to Patient and Midwife to Patient Ratios) Amendment Act 2019, we roster nurses according to the following ratios:
Acute
Morning Shift (0700hrs – 1530 hrs) 1 nurse: 6 patients
Afternoon Shift (1430 hrs – 2300 hrs) 1 nurse: 7 patients
Night Shift (2245hrs – 0715 hrs) 1 nurse: 10 patients
Mittamatite Lodge
Morning Shift (0700 hrs – 1530 hrs) 1 nurse: 7 residents
Afternoon Shift (1430 hrs – 2300 hrs ) 1 nurse: 8 residents
Night Shift (2245 hrs – 0715 hrs) 1 nurse: 15 patients
Staffing compliance for a Level 4 hospital
Based on analysis of occupancy for the financial year 2024 – 2025, the expected occupancy of Acute less than 30% and Mittamatite Lodge 96%.
